I love to challenge myself with every painting, glasswork, or whatever I approach. This may be about color, composition, a new technique, it doesn’t matter, it’s still about play for me, as it was with the very first oil painting I ever did at the age of eleven or twelve. When I get too serious and worry about the outcome, I need to put the work aside for a later time. Mixed media has taken on new meaning in recent years. The focus has been to study what past masters have done and why. I am skilled in many crafts and enjoy using and mixing these skills with painting and stained glass.
My philosophy of painting has much to do with my life experiences. I was lucky to have a happy childhood where personal freedom, motivation, and imagination thrived; therefore, I love to paint children lost in the moment, innocent, and uncomplicated. My landscapes and seascapes have a lot to do with emotion and the subconscious, with a balance between the learned process of technical skill and spontaneous expression. With stained glass color and light are at the top of the priority list. Spontaneous expression of design evolves naturally. Finally, my writing is highly personal even when it is fiction. My goal is the same in paint, glass, and writing, which is a search for poetic pictures and characterization which touch a universal cord in some way.
I’ve been told by many that my most outstanding personality trait is creativity. Creating brings me joy and I hope with all my heart some of that joy passes through my work to those who come to own it.
